Episode 20: Derek Murphy, Usability Researcher at Harvard IQSS

Derek is a Usability Researcher at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) at Harvard University, where he works to make the open-source, data repository software, Dataverse, easier and more enjoyable to use. He recently attained his Masters in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, where he also worked as the Fellow for Dean’s Initiatives.

Sylvie got her first library job in the Special Collections and Archives department at the University of Illinois at Chicago while she was working toward her BA in Anthropology. Later, while working as a library assistant at the Newberry Library in Chicago, she decided to take the plunge and move to central Illinois to get her MSLIS with a certificate in special collections from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After 3 years of working with physical archives and rare books, she’s still not quite sure how she ended up on the front lines of web archiving, but she’s thrilled to be there.
